CAN I USE INSURANCE or HSA TO PAY FOR SPORT NUTRITION SERVICES?

Telehealth services and their inclusion has changed multiple times since 2020, and varies per state. Telehealth (audio/video) nutrition consultations covered by insurance are used to deliver Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT), which is an evidence-based therapeutic approach provided by a registered dietitian to manage and treat specific medical conditions. MNT involves conducting a comprehensive nutrition assessment, diagnosing nutrition-related problems, developing and implementing individualized interventions, and monitoring outcomes to improve or manage diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, gastrointestinal disorders, and other clinical conditions.

Though comprehensive assessment and individualized interventions are part of each service listed on this site, neither functional nutrition or performance nutrition are MNT, and therefore not covered through insurance.

We can provide a Superbill for you to present to your insurance if you would like to pay with HSA debit card. Currently, payments are completed through PayPal and Venmo business, and will be changing to a new platform in the future.

In contrast, sports nutrition is not considered part of MNT, as its primary focus is not the treatment of disease but the optimization of performance. Sports nutrition involves a detailed assessment and analysis of an athlete’s exercise routines, training plans, and the periodized structure of their training cycles (macro-, meso-, and microcycles). It integrates principles of nutrition science, exercise physiology, and biology to design individualized fueling strategies that support training adaptations, enhance recovery, and maximize athletic performance.
